California is the most populous state in the US with a population of 38 million people. It’s the 3rd largest state by area of 163,696 square miles. The landmarks of California represent: “Disneyland”, “Universal Studios Hollywood”, “Golden Gate Bridge” and “Alcatraz Island”.
In California are located many private colleges such as Stanford University, the University of Southern California, the California Institute of Technology and the Claremont Colleges. The California State University represents the largest university system in the US.
The economy in the state is on a high level with a gross domestic product of $16.7 trillion. The state’s largest sectors are: trade, transportation, utilities, government, education, health services and manufacturing. The most exported products in California are computers and electronic equipment.
Fishing and agriculture are very important sectors in the California’s economy. The farms in California are also highly productive as a result of a long growing season and the use of modern agricultural methods, but irrigation is still one of the biggest problems in the state.
California’s state sales tax is 7.5 %. Local governments can also impose additional sales taxes, but these taxes are temporary in the period of 7 years and after that they change back into their previous max marginal income tax bracket of 10.3%.
